The Four Clans

Season
Current Season: Greenleaf
Greenleaf has taken hold of the forest, marking an end to the pleasantly warm days of Newleaf. The temperature is now quite hot, at times unbearably so; most prey tend to take shelter during the hottest time of the day. Dangerous thunderstorms are possible and can happen with little warning. Will the heat of Greenleaf cause tempers to flare when tension is already running high in the Clans?

Warrior Apprentice
The apprentice padded forward through the territory, stumbling over tree roots and tripping on stones as he continued onward. He wasn't used to being out in the territory even though he had been an apprentice for a few moons. He tripped over one more tree root, and held back a sigh of frustration. How will I ever become a warrior when I can hardly see where I'm stepping? He squinted, but everything was still one big, mixed up blur. Flamepaw sighed. He lowered his muzzle to the ground to pick up Stormblade's scent and realized that it was quite close. He continued in his mentor's direction, narrowly avoiding crashing into a tree. When his mentor's scent was stronger, he squinted, thinking that he could just make out the blurry shape of his mentor. "Stormblade? I'm here. Sorry I took so long," he said.

Stormblade had been appointed Flamepaws mentor after Magmafeather had gone up and vanished on him. So he'd asked Flamepaw to meet him near the clearing just out of camp that he had trained others to fight and hunt in. Seeing him stumble up he found himself wondering yet again if there was something wrong with the pups mismatched vision. The irish wolf hound presented a wide happy smile and wagged his tail "Hi Flamepaw! I was thinking you might like to learn how to hunt first because its something you don't need vision for" After all he had watched Forsakensoul hunt and bring down all kinds of prey without the use of his eyes, so he had high hopes that he'd be able to teach Flamepaw a thing or two about that. He wasn't sure how he was going to teach the apprentice how to fight but decided they'd focus on what he could teach him

His mentor had stated that they could practice hunting, and Flamepaw gave a hesitant nod. "Sure. That sounds good." Perhaps hunting wouldn't be so hard despite his bad vision. He could use scent to try and pinpoint his prey's location, and maybe he'd be able to listen to the scuffling of prey to help with locating it as well. Some things are easier said—er, thought—than done. The apprentice sat back while he waited for Stormblade to continue, his ears perked to catch his mentor's words.

Stormblade nodded before a thought struck him "Even though things are blurry you can still see colour right? You can use that to help you navigate" when he'd been a house pet one of his two legs had worn glasses because their eyes had been funny. When they hadn't had them on they could still see colours and the general shape of things enough not to bump into things all the time. The wolfhound moved into a simple hunting crouch "This is what they call a hunting crouch, you want to keep yourself balanced and low to the ground, keep an eye out for where you can hide your fur so the prey dosen't spot you" he explained jovially hoping he wasn't going too fast.

Flamepaw gave a hesitant nod. "Yes," he started, "but the colors I can see are a bit blended together." It was rather hard for him to describe his vision; besides the blurriness, his vision was rather clouded as well which made things even harder. When his mentor mentioned the hunting crouch, Flamepaw squinted, trying his best to see what his mentor was doing. He frowned; it was quite hard to see Stormblade's exact posture, but he tried to go off of what he could see and most importantly, what Stormblade had described. The apprentice crouched down, feeling around with a paw for taller grass in which he could hide. He moved forward until the grass felt high enough, then lifted his head towards his mentor. "Is this what you mean?" he called out, hoping that his hunting crouch was okay.
