The Four Clans

Season
Current Season: Greenleaf
Greenleaf has taken hold of the forest, marking an end to the pleasantly warm days of Newleaf. The temperature is now quite hot, at times unbearably so; most prey tend to take shelter during the hottest time of the day. Dangerous thunderstorms are possible and can happen with little warning. Will the heat of Greenleaf cause tempers to flare when tension is already running high in the Clans?

1 Windswept Praire on Sat Nov 02, 2013 6:53 pm

Named for the sea winds that sweep across the prairie. The grass is thick and flows across the earth along with clumps of heather dotting it here and there. There are few trees there.

Sunblaze streaked across the prairie. His muscles rippled under a thin orange pelt. He slowed to a stop,as his chest tightened and his muscles tensed. He took a few short quick breaths, but soon a justed to the long deep breath. He took a finally very long breath with an exaggerated motion. He closed his eyes as the scent of salt rock and water filled his nose. Sunblaze started glancing around, staring at the rolling hills around him. He closed his eyes again and lifted his muzzle up into the air. He opened a mouth to taste the scents that made its way into his black nostrils. Hmm,rabbit, and some other rodent...? He blinked owned his eys in confusion. He looked around to the direction of the odd scent. It looked like a miniature golden retriever. He blinked inquisitively, then licked his muzzle at the thought of having food in a belly. He smirked and crouched down into the grass. His tail straightened out,and his claws stretched out to feel the dry rocks and soil under his paws. He took a quiet deep breath. His nose sniffling a little at the chilled air. The breeze combed through his fur and momentarily flattened the dry grasses. It made its way into his bones and flesh. He shook his pelt and turned back to the praire dog. He narrowed his eyes and crept forward. Feeling the dry dirt shift silently as he pressed on towards the rodent. The praire dog then turned to look at him,he froze. His brown eyes staring unblinking at the creature. It's nose twitched and it ran off. Sunblaze was after after it like a rabbit. He decided to cut it off at a hole, and skidded around it and stopped. Only to see it stop and turn around. Sunblaze looked to see another hole. Mouse dung! He growled and leapt after it again. His paws thundering on the ground. He quickly over took the prey and pounced in it. Biting its neck with needle-sharp prediction. The taste of blood filled his mouth. The metallic tang of the liquid filled his senses. He had frozen on the spot, and his muscles tensed in an uncomfortable position. Though,he chose not to move till the small pulse in its throat died down. It did and he exhaled through his nose as he stood up. He cracked his neck and stretched out his back. He glanced around and stared at the praire again. Then he turned around, deciding to return to camp with his new catch. He decided on a slow jog,and not to be so fast.

The large black dog with tapered ears limped over the prairie, she had been hit by a car during her following the clans and now she had a large open gash over her chest, the wound was scabbed over now, but she still had the peice of flesh hanging by a centimeter of flesh. She didn't hunt on the territory although her belly snarled with hunger, her nose caught the scent of a wolf and with a slow determined air the cold female followed it.

The She-wolf limped over the Prairie. Because of her disfigured leg, it made it harder to run, but she had adjusted over the past moons, running with her strengthened three other legs, to make up the disused fourth. When she walked around, she could sort of use her bionic paw, but when she ran, it was too heavy to really use. So Lark tread silently over the moors, sniffing around for a certain herb. "Let's see, Goldenrod is obviously Golden, or yellow, so any yellow flowers around here?" Unfortunately there was nothing. Lark padded on, gazing around for something. The sun had now risen over the moors, and a beautiful clear day lay ahead. As the Apprentice padded over another hill, something rustle in some nearby bracken. A hare popped out, panicked by the wolf's presence, it pelted over the moor. Thrilled, Lark chased after it. She had just gotten close enough to make the kill when something caught her eye. She turned and spotted several long stemmed yellow flowers, swaying in the wind. "Goldenrod!" Hesitating on whether she should keep running, Larkpaw finally stopped and let the hare run out of sight. The She-wolf sighed, "Well, there goes the Fresh-kill." Lark blinked, realizing that the scenario was similar to what she had dreamed about the night before. "Strange." So she turned back to the lovely flowers. "But anyway, this is more important." She trotted over to the flowers, sniffing them, hoping they were really Goldenrod. They were yellow, so she figured they might have been. Lark nipped off a few stems, not wanting to take them all in case they never grew back. "This should be more then enough." Satisfied, she turned and headed for home.

The blue sky dawned upon the meadow. Fluffy white clouds everywhere that were in various shapes and sizes. Snowstar started to yawn. Groaning slightly, she lifted her head. Her earlier headache had seemed to ease up a bit. She looked up, the sun in her caramel eyes. Snowstar smiled as she scented wildflowers around her, colorful fluffs of lovely hues. But through all the scents, she found a unfamiliar scent. 'Dog.' The word ran through her head. Her head snapped to the direction of the den. Tilting her head, she wondered if there was an intruder at camp. She stood up, stretching to prepare for her run back to camp. She suddenly scented the smell of Larkpaw and Wrenpaw. Snowstar stopped midway, awaiting their arrival.

Wrenpaw dashed after his sister over the prairie. The wind ruffled through his fur making him feel energetic and free. Suddenly Lark halted in front of him, making him crash into her, sending them both stumbling. "What?" He asked, when they both had regained their paws. "Look! It's Snowstar." The Apprentice narrowed his eyes against the glare of the sun. Sure enough, he spotted a white pelt in the distance, heading in the direction of the camp. "Well she took forever to find!" Wren barked sarcastically, seeing that they had traveled a short distance from camp. Lark twitched an ear at his remark and trotted forward again. "Come on!" He blinked and padded after her. The pelted across the moor, then slowed when they reached the larger She-wolf. "Hey Snowstar!" Larkpaw barked in a friendly manner to their leader. Wren said nothing but dipped his head in a polite greeting.

Snowstar was all set and just about to dash back to camp when she heard paw steps that had obviously clumsy. She turned around, smiled in delight at the two apprentices. 'Hey Snowstar!'she heard Larkpaw say. She was slightly fazed when Wrenpaw didn't greet but just dipped his head. 'I wonder what had gotten to him. He to show much emotion anymore. I might just make them warriors once I get to observe their hunting and fighting skills.' The fae thought to herself."Hello."she said with a slightly silkier voice. "What brings you both here?"asked the white coated she wolf. Her muzzle lifted once more to the scent of the dog. "By any chance there's a dog in our camp?"she asked another question. "I wonder what their business with us is. Their probably seeking to join..."she mumbled softly.

Larkpaw cocked her head and sat down, curling her tail over her paws. "Barkstripe sent us to find you." She replied, guessing that the leader must have scented the dog. What Snowstar said next confirmed her of her suspicion. "Yes, there is. It's a tall black dog who wants to join. Barkstripe and Bluespirit were with her when we left." She waited for the She-wolf to reply, while of course Wren stayed quiet the whole time.

Snowstar nodded. "It's a good thing then."she said softly. "Come, let us get back to camp. Thank you for alerting me on this matter as well."she smiled, turning back to the direction of the camp. The femme scampered off into the direction of the camp. A slight spring in her step that slowly evolved into a trot, and after that, a run. Dashing back to camp like how she was supposed to initially, Snowstar could already smell the scent growing stronger.

Larkpaw stood again and trotted a short distance behind the She-wolf to the camp. She turned to see if her brother was following, but Wren was nowhere to be seen. "Wrenpaw?" She called, surprised by his disappearance. The Apprentice trotted back up a small slope and gazed out. She grinned as she saw him, crouched behind some Heather, sneaking up on a hare. At once he dashed out, pelting towards the hare at full speed. The prey shot up and ran, with the wolf closely behind. Larkpaw then dashed out, cutting the hare off, and making the kill. Her brother then came to join her. "Nice job!" He said, his eyes shining in excitement. Lark dipped her head in a polite thanks. "Come on! I want to see if the dog gets accepted." She said after a few moments. The She-wolf hesitated on picking up the Hare, wondering if Wren should do it. But her dipped his head: "It's your catch." She smiled and took up the prey in her jaws, carrying it towards the camp with Wrenpaw running close by.

Wrenpaw slowly made his way back toward the moors. The sky was a faded blue, and weird wispy clouds were scattered all through it, along with the scent of snow or frost. The wind had died down, but the male apprentice was fine with that since it was already rather cold. "Very soon it'll be Leaf-bare." He thought, "And soon we'll see snow too." Wren had been born in the beginning of New-leaf, and had only seen snow once in his lifetime, and he really didn't remember it. Scenting around the area, he was disappointed to find no scent of prey. But he continued trotting forward, not in the mood to head back to camp yet.
After some time though, he picked up a strange scent. It smelled like...prey? Or maybe not, since he couldn't remember ever scenting this on the fresh-kill pile before. Intrigued, Wrenpaw decided to follow, weary incase this creature was harmful.
Over the hills, through the tall grass, his paws flew. The smell was now getting stronger, and whatever it was, had a strange forest tint to it. As he came to the top of a hill, he spotted it. A small, fat, brown creature. Spikes poked out of it's fur as it tottered along, unaware of the male's presence. Wrenpaw grinned, "A porcupine!" He had never seen one before, but he had heard about the strange animal that shot quills out at it's enemies. "I wonder what it's doing out of the forests?" Wrenpaw padded down the slope towards it, wondering if he could somehow catch it. But as soon as it saw him, the porcupine curled up, and it's fur bristled out ominous look quills. The Apprentice stopped short, now only a few wolf-lengths away. "Alright, I'm leaving." He said to the strange animal, backing away. He then padded up the slope, pleased to find the sun was already dipping towards the horizon. "I'm coming Weedpaw!" He thought, enthusiastically. Wren turned tail and ran for the border.

Graywolf arrived at the windswept prairie before the other two. Her fur that used to be knotted, now untangled itself in the wind that blew through her haunches, making her fur ruffle. "Brrr, it's freezing here, isn't it? Well, Bluespirit, if you don't mind, I'm gonna go to the camp, perhaps I can find more helpers there." she smiles sort of mockingly. The young warrior then trotted towards Windclan camp, a little bounce in her step.

(Just going to pretend we gathered herbs since Blue hasn't replied.)

Lark watched as Graywolf padded away. She glanced down at the herbs she had gathered and gazed back at Bluespirit. He had asked her to talk with him back at camp. Strange, she had thought, that she had recognized a good amount of the herbs they had collected, though she hadn't known the names. It was just almost as if she had seen them before. Shaking her head to clear her thoughts, Lark turned and said to Bluespirit: "I'll help you carry the herbs back to camp." Picking up the herbs in her jaws, she turned her head in the direction of the camp and started towards it. The first stars were beginning to make an appearance as she limped across the moor. As she neared the camp entrance, snow began to fall, turning the grasslands into a silvery-white.

Graywolf came back to the prairie and started to cry, dreading the death of her dear leader. I hope I can deal with Brokenglare being leader now, I just hope the fae doesn't do anything stupid, like start a war the young warrior thought to herself. The grayish brown wolf then lied down in a comfortable spot and started to doze off. And she dreamed, of Snowstar being in a better place, and of Brokenglare doing a good job as the new leader of Windclan. She then stood up and howled mournfully, filling the sky with echoes of her unforgettable song. The grayish brown warrior then stopped her howls of grief, and started to make her way back to camp.

Quicksilver walked up and found a tree to shelter against, the wind had begun to pick up battering the wolf with strong gale like winds. She lay down digging her claws into the dirt, such winds weren't unknown, she'd lived on the side of a mountain for a while, so cold gusty winds weren't new to her. But she'd never come across such strong ones, the tree creaked, the wind strong enough to begin to push the hollow old tree over. Her ears perked as the pretty thing noticed her danger, quickly she leapt to her paws and just in time managed to get out of the way as the doomed tree crashed into the earth where she had lain only moments before. She turned and headed off wanting to find a place a bit more... comfortable to spend the night, she dug her claws into the earth as she walked feeling like the wind was going to blow her away.

Rowan

Rowan crept along the high frozen grass, feeling as if the massive sky would reach down and swallow the little fae up.

The lithe brown she-wolf had always avoided open spaces. They were just too...vulnerable.

She shook the thoughts from her head and continued forward, one careful pawstep in the snow at a time. She had crossed a borderline earlier, but that didn't mean much to her. It just meant that this excursion needed to be brief.

The scent of meat ahead made her mouth water and her stomach growl. It had been days since her last meal, and she was hungry enough to steal whatever had died or had been killed in the area.

She paused to check the scents around her again. The wild wind whipping through her coat chilled her thin frame and made her want to whine and flee the area. She could hardly pinpoint a scent or hear anything with it blowing her fur in every direction.

Ignoring her discomfort, Rowan plodded on, desperate to find the food.

When Swiftspirit arrived, the snow already covered the prairie. She spread out her toes as she walked, careful not to sink into the fresh snow. Still she sniffed the air, disappointed to find it lacking in any sort of prey. "The rabbits have buried themselves underground by now." Still not refusing to be daunted, she continued, her coat blending her in to the surroundings. She caught the scent of Crowfood, but paid no attention to it until another smell seemed nearby. Picking up the scent of another wolf, Swiftspirit slowed down her pace and stopped, watching a stranger wolf head towards a nearly frozen carcass. The fae looked on and decided to approach. "Hello? You do know you're on windclan territory." Her voice remained neutral and unthreatening.

Rowan's eyes went wide with fear as another wolf spotted her.

Adrenaline surged through her system and the agile she-wolf sped at an angle, away from the intruder, but still in the direction of the crowfood.

She had no words for the other wolf but the snow she kicked up as her banner streamed behind her.

Swiftspirit's eyes widened as the smaller loner took a run for it, spraying her with snow. "Hey, wait!" she called, not meaning to frighten her so much. She started after her but then stopped. "With her scent trail still fresh, I can follow behind her." Holding back, the fae waited until the loner disappeared before persuing, padding slowly to where the wolf had run off too. Not surprisingly, it seemed to be towards the crowfood.

The young she-wolf's heart pounded against her chest as she fled.

Please don't finish me. Please don't finish me. She inwardly plead as she raced across the frozen moorlands.

Adrenaline propelled her thin body forward until she painfully tripped and fell forward on her face.

Still in the snow, Rowan paused, panting heavily before she turned. Snow clung in her fur, giving her strange markings across her back and face. She turned briefly checking herself over to see what had tripped her.

She had tripped over an old carcass. Most of it had been eaten away by other predators, but thin strips of frozen meat still clung to the rib cage.

Momentarily forgetting herself, Rowan turned around and began to hungrily gnaw, stripping away the little pieces of meat as she savagely tried to fill her stomach.

Swiftspirit crouched and slunk through the snow, more grateful then ever of her white coat. Making sure she was downwind of the loner, she paused as she spotted her in the distance, feeding on the an old crowfood carcass. The young fae watched, feeling her heart well up in sympathy to loner. "That's hardly a meal.." she thought. Deciding to do something kind, Swiftspirit padded away from the wolf, catching the aroma of a nearby prey animal. She followed it, realizing that had the scent of rabbit. The fae then spotted the creature, nibbling on a few blades of grass that remained through the snow. The nimble fae then bounded forward. The rabbit shot off in alarm, but Swiftspirit was faster, delivering a fatal blow to the rabbit's neck. Once it was dead, she scooped it up and padded back to the loner was, hesitantly stepping forward and dropping her prize. Here, this is for you. It's more fresh." She still stood a little ways from the wolf, not wanting to spook her so much like before.

Rowan froze, every inch of her prepared to flee.

She watched through golden amber eyes as the white wolf dropped the hare.

The moment seemed to freeze for Rowan. The scent of the fresh kill wafting over her, reminding her that what she was eating was hardly delicious.

I get what I can. There is no shame in eating leftovers to sustain myself. She thought angrily, still watching the she-wolf.

The white wolf carried the scent of a pack on her. In the current wind and weather, an entire patrol could be several paces from Rowan and she wouldn't be able to tell.

Her blazing eyes never leaving her opponents, Rowan let out a terse growl.

"What do you want from me Pack Wolf?"

The fae watched the loner let out a growl. In her eyes the loner looked barely older then an apprentice. "I want to give this to you." she turned her head towards the rabbit. "I know what it's like to live on your own, without anyone to care for you." Her voice turned sad, as she recalled a long ago memory. Days of scavenging for any morsel hadn't been forgotten on Swiftspirit. "I lived like that before I joined Windclan. Now I have other wolves who care about me." She wagged her tail a little and grinned. "You could join too. You wouldn't need to forage for food anymore." Unlike her clanmates who never had to deal with being an outcast, Swiftspirit understood this pain.

Rowan's eyes hardened at the white wolf's words. Memories washing over her as she bared her fangs.

"I'm better off on my own." She said, her eyes showing her distrust as she carefully took a pawstep towards the hare. She didn't know if she could snatch it before the white wolf would be on her, but the meat would keep her comfortable until she could hunt again. It was strength that she needed. Besides, she stood a better chance at fleeing with food with a rabbit versus a crowfood rib cage.

The fae's eyes convicted some sadness as the loner replied that she was better off on her own. "Well if that's what you want..." Swiftspirit had always craved pack life, even before she was with Windclan. But maybe not all wolves felt that way. She then noticed the other wolf taking a gander at the rabbit she had dropped at her paws. sighing, the fae dipped her head some and backed away, allowing the loner time to snatch it. "Here, it's yours if you want it." She couldn't force the young wolf to join her clan, even if she could see it was best for her.
