The Four Clans

Season
Current Season: Greenleaf
Greenleaf has taken hold of the forest, marking an end to the pleasantly warm days of Newleaf. The temperature is now quite hot, at times unbearably so; most prey tend to take shelter during the hottest time of the day. Dangerous thunderstorms are possible and can happen with little warning. Will the heat of Greenleaf cause tempers to flare when tension is already running high in the Clans?

Iceflood stopped once he reached the river, sitting down nearby the shore. He thought that the river would be a good place to train his new apprentice. They could practice swimming, fishing, even water fighting techniques. The forest was nearby too, for hunting forest prey or learning battle moves suited for the woods. I'm still rather surprised that I have an apprentice. He thought that he was a bit too inexperienced, having just earned his warrior name, but if Graystar believed in him then he supposed that there was a reason. He looked up to see if Moonpaw had yet arrived, wondering what they'd work on first.

Moonpaw bounded down the slight slope towards the river where Iceflood stood and skidded to a halt in front of him. The apprentice stood tall as she looked up at the white brute with slightly heavy breathing. "What are we going to be doing Iceflood?" the snowy fae asked. She was excited to get started and quivered as she stood. Her mind raced through the possibilities of what her mentor would be teching her first. Would it be fishing or hunting or fighting? It could even be swimming. The possibliltes seemed endless to Moon.

Iceflood looked up as his apprentice approached. "Hello Moonpaw," he greeted her. He thought for a moment at her question. "Would you be okay with fishing?" he asked. The young warrior waited to hear Moonpaw's response. He supposed that they could always working on something else if she said 'no.' He hoped that he'd be a good mentor; he hadn't exactly had a normal apprenticeship when it came to mentors, what with his first mentor going missing and him receiving a second one.

Moonpaw nodded her head rapidly when Iceflood asked if she was ok with fishing. Then a thought crossed her mind. "Are fish slippery Iceflood?" the fae asked tilting her head. Turning her gaze to the river she frowned and narrowed her gaze at the glimmering flickers of fish. She crept forward and stared into the water reaching out with a paw to touch a fish. She jumped back suddenly when one did and shook her paw. It was a weird felling to Moonpaw and she wasn't sure what she thought of it.

Iceflood nodded slightly at Moonpaw's question. "They can be," he started, pausing when he saw Moonpaw stick her paw in the river. "It'll take some getting used to," he commented. "To start off, you want to be sure to sit far enough back so that the fish don't see your reflection or your shadow. You'll also need to be patient; it can take a while for fish to show up. When a fish does show up, either grab it with a paw or reach underwater and bite down on the fish," he said. "Like this," he added, sitting down by the shore while being careful that the fish wouldn't see him. "If you so much as blink or look away, you might miss your chance."

Moonpaw shuffled back until neither her shadow or reflection could been seen on the water. Glancing over at Iceflood she then copied is position of staring into the water. The gentle sparkle of light coming off the water made the apprentice want to blink and she strained to keep her jade green eyes open. It hadn't been long before she had an itch in her side and she squirmed beside her mentor. It was just as it was starting to become unbearable that she spotted a fish close to shore and the snowy apprentice pounced. Her jaws snapped just sending water spraying everywhere and when Moon lifted her muzzle water was dripping from all her fur and she turned to Iceflood.

Iceflood turned to watch Moonpaw; she had taken care not to show either her reflection or shadow. That was good; but soon it seemed that the apprentice was growing restless. When she leaped forward, she hadn't returned with a fish. "Very good," he began. "You're doing well; don't be discouraged. Before you leap next time, try to be certain that you jump at the right time, not too soon and not too late. By that, I mean to make sure that the fish is close by, at a distance you're sure that you can manage," he said. "Why don't you try again?"

Moonpaw padded out of the river annoyed that she had missed but encouraged by Icefloods words. Making sure she was at a good distance away from her white mentor the young fae shook out her fur sending water drops flying through the air. Before she retook her spot beside him, Moon made sure that she scratched the bothersome itch on her side. Feeling better and more determined she returned to her spot and stared into the water. She was fish watching and determined to get that prey.

Moonpaw had soon returned to her fishing position, and Iceflood took care to be quiet so as to not make her lose her focus. Fishing was a skill that required patience and one's full attention; any distraction could lead to a loss in catching a fish. But to Iceflood, it was all worth it; there were few things more satisfying than mastering the art of fishing, than finally catching your first fish after all those failed attempts. Fishing is something I'm good at, so I'm glad that I can teach Moonpaw about it. But what about when they moved on to something like fighting? He wasn't very good at that at all, and it worried him. I guess I can try teaching her battle moves when we get to fighting; I know most of the moves, it's just when it actually comes down to fighting that I fail, he thought. Leaving his thoughts behind, he returned his focus to Moonpaw to watch her fish.

Moonpaw glared down into the water that held the fish. The slippery prey seemed to be taunting her by staying just out of comfortable reach. Just then she saw a fish swimming closer to shore and she carefully shifted her gaze to it. As it started to cross in front of the snowy fae she dove forward with snapping jaws. It seemed like more water went flying then the time before and she stood up. Looking over at Iceflood she noticed she had gotten some water very close to him and she lowered her white ears sheepishly.

Iceflood didn't flinch when Moonpaw sent water flying; he didn't mind if some landed on him. After all, swimming was probably the thing he post enjoyed. "Don't worry about it," he said when he saw Moonpaw's embarrassed look. "You're still doing well," he said. His gaze turned to the river, and without looking back to his apprentice he added, "If it would help, I can show you how I'd catch a fish." The snowy-furred wolf focused on the water, his ears perked forward in case he heard any splashes. He waited patiently; several moments later he saw a glimmer of silver flash close to the shore. The young warrior sprang forward, his jaws parted as he ducked underwater. His muzzle snapped short just whiskers away from the fish, however, and it managed to swim to safety and out of his reach. Iceflood resurfaced with a sigh. "Well, that's more or less what I would do," he said, remaining calm even though he felt a bit embarrassed himself. "It just goes to show you that fishing isn't easy. Why don't you try again?"

Moonpaw climbed out of the river and sat down heavily. She didn't feel like she was doing well even though Iceflood said she was. When he offered to show how he fished she sat up tall and watched him. She studied the way her looked into the water and then how he launched himself into said water after a fish. Her head tilted as the prentice saw her mentor rising back up without the fish. She nodded slowly when he asked if she wanted to try again. Thinking of how Iceflood had moved she settled in and trained her green orbs on the shallow water closer to her paws. Moon kept her shadow and reflection off the water and waited. It felt like forever to the annoyed fae but soon a glimmering fish swam in close to her. Pushing herself forward much like Iceflood had she snapped her jaws shut and felt her teeth close over something. Standing back up she turned to Iceflood and looked for his approval.

Iceflood padded back to the shore and sat down, shivering slightly; the water was still rather cold. The white-furred warrior looked on as his apprentice returned to fishing, and even though she had to wait for some time, Moonpaw's attempt had been successful; his apprentice had caught her first fish. "Good job, Moonpaw," he said with a nod towards the fish she'd caught. "That fish will help to feed the Clan. You're starting to get the hang of fishing; would you like to try a couple more times? If not, I suppose that we can move onto something else," Iceflood said, perking his ears to hear his apprentice's response.

Moonpaw stood taller in the river as the water dropped off her pelt at Icefloods praise and the knowledge that the fish she had caught would help feed the clan. She padded out the the wet and onto the shore to drop the fish beside her mentor as he asked if she would like to give it a few more goes. Even though she was eager to move on Moon felt that she would be better off trying to catch another fish first so the clan had more fresh kill. "As much as I would love to move on. I also want to try and set another fish for the clan." she replied with conviction. Returning to her spot she settled in to await the next fish.

Iceflood glanced down at the fish when Moonpaw set it next to him, before nodding when she stated that she wanted to continue fishing. "Of course," he said. He stayed quiet while Moonpaw focused on the river, not wanting to bother her or make her lose her concentration. I hope I'm teaching her how to fish properly, the warrior thought to himself. I only really practiced fishing with Opalwing, and that was a while ago. But Moonpaw had managed to catch a fish, hadn't she? Hopefully he was teaching her how to fish well.

Moonpaw breathed slowly as the shimmering fish swam just out of her reach. They taunted the white apprentice by darting just in before moving away again. It took a while but her patience paid off when a large fish slowly started to glide by her in the shallows. Her launched her slim body at the large piece of prey and snapped her jaws shut. The fish thrashed in her fangs as the fae attempted to pull it to shore. She dug her claws in and heaved backwards dragging the heavy flopping fish up and away from the river it came from. When she felt it was far enough away she released its tail that her fangs and sunk into and bit up by it head. Moon sat down panting once it was dead and looked up at Iceflood with a smile and wagging tail.

The happy go lucky natured dog walked up quietly, he'd thought that perhaps Iceflood would appreciate some help training his apprentice as the young warrior had only just been made a warrior himself. Stormblade had liked Moonpaw ever since she was a pup, in a friendly uncle kind of a way. Watching with slight pride as the apprentice caught a large fish and dragged it onto the bank he called out "nice catch there Moonpaw!" he moved closer "Hi Iceflood, I was wondering if you'd like some help mentoring miss moonpaw here" he suggested kindly no malice or jeering in his kind warm brown eyes. He was happy to help and had thought that in Icefloods paws he'd be greatful for the help.

Moonpaws white head snapped around when Stormblade spoke to her praising her catch. She smiled happily as she got to her paw quietly as he turned his attention to her white mentor. The apprentice launched her body at the older dogs aiming to land on his back. "STORMBLADE!" she shouted as she flew through the air. Moon was estatic that the warrior who she thought of as an uncle was there to watch her training and he was offering to help as well.

When the apprentice called his name and leapt for him a goofy grin spread over his hairy features. When she leapt onto his back he praised her "Good job! Thats a good fighting move, using that a whole group of apprentices can take down a warrior however you have to be careful that they don't do this" he dropped to the ground and moved to roll over knowing that she'd hav to get out of the way quickly. He wouldn't really squash her as this was just training but he thought it'd be good practice for her. The large dog hoped that Iceflood wouldn't mind him barging on in and helping.

Moonpaw landed on Stormblades back and her tail wagged as he praised her. Her joy quickly vanished when he warned her that warriors sometimes did a move and his body dropped to the ground and started to roll over. Pushing up with her white paws the fae launched her body off the dogs swiftly and landed lightly. Moon was quick to whip around and jumped for his stomach with open jaws and gleaming ivory fangs. Her jade green eyes kept a careful watch on his movement as she went in for an attack.

He was pleased when she leapt away, a good study he thought to himself when she leapt for his belly he rolled back up onto his feet, a keen look entering his eyes he reached out to lightly aim to touch his paw to her head in a motion known as as strike. He awaited for her to decide what to do attack or defense wise. Again his thoughts drifted to her mentor Iceflood, hopefully the quiet newly made warrior wouldn't mind him interrupting. Slight concern flaring in him, distracting him for a couple of moments

Moonpaw twisted her body slightly as Stormblade rolled to his paws. She changed her focus to his now outstretched paw. Deciding to back paddle the apprentice landed sooner then she had planned and rolled into Storms paw. It hit her lightly on the head and she jumped back quickly with a growl. Copying his move she swept her own paw forward at his other fore-leg.

He was glad he hadn't put his full force behind the blow, watching as she jumped back her growl caused him to have to hide a gentle laugh. Although she was trying to be aggressive it was a cute little growl, he didn't anticipate her speed however. Her hit to his leg causing him to nod "Good" he told her before continuing with a couple of other moves she could try using on him "how about you try the Teeth Grip. You Target your opponent's extremities- the legs, tail, scruff or ears- and sink in your teeth and hold. This move is similar to the leap-and-hold except your claws remain free to fight. or you could try the Back Kick. Explosive surprise move to catch opponent from behind. Judge opponent's distance from you carefully, then lash out with your back legs, taking all weight on your front paws." he explained the two moves in detail his brown-gold eyes focused on her jade green ones.

Moonpaw listened with pricked ears as Stormblade explained two new moves that she could try. With a nod she spun around and lashed out at his legs with her hind-legs placing all her weight on her front paw. Landing she spun back to look at the Irish Wolf Hound with a questioning gaze. "Like that Storm?" she asked with a tilted white head.

Watching as she carefully placed her weight on her front paws and lashed out with her back legs he nodded "Yes, thats it good job, In battle you need to keep your mind" he reached over and gently touched her head with his paw "Focused, you don't need to kill to win a fight, some of us draw on emotions to help us fight. I prefer to keep a clear head and focus on what I need to do. I know a couple use their feelings of protectiveness for those they care about to help give them an extra boost" he informed her thoughtfully his mind drifting to a couple of other warriors of the clan the knew often leant back on their emotions when it came to fighting . "why don't you try the other move. The teeth grip, just remember to be careful as this isn't a real fight" he smiled kindly liking Moonpaw. She was intelligent and was a quick study, he genuinely was enjoying teaching her.
